Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
"Good Things Come To Those Who Wait" is a fable about determination. In our class Stories, we've been learning about characters types, symbolization, and all the components that go into telling a story with a lesson. Fables are good examples of stories with lessons because they are stories that have a moral at the end. We read Aesop's Fables, which is the most popular book of children's Fables. Fables are stories for children, with animals that are personified. They have a protagonist and an antagonist as the main characters, and there is a setting and scenario that takes place as well. For our Unit 2 Action Project, our job was to create a Fable of our own. To create our story, we had to identify our values with words. One of my values is having determination. Even without praise or help from others, I believe you always need to try and try again. Having determination also means to me that you have to understand that life is about failing and trying again.
Below is my story, Enjoy ;)
Poor Caterpillar lost her shoe. Caterpillar thinks, “Where did I lose my shoe?” She lives in the park with all of her other insect, bug, and amphibian friends. The park has a fountain, pond, trees, a park bench, and a playground. There are so many places to look, but she starts with the playground. Caterpillar looks under the slides and in the mulch surrounding the swing-set.
Caterpillar hears a distant and faint voice telling her to stop looking for the shoe. She ignores the voice, and walks around the park to look. Caterpillar doesn’t like walking without her shoe because it hurts her foot. She gets frustrated and decides to take a break. Caterpillar observes everyone in the playground playing with their shoes on.
She says to herself, “Why don’t I have my shoe? Why me? I should be out there playing with my friends.”
Caterpillar has an idea, and she goes to Spider and asks, “May I borrow a shoe from you spider?” She can’t have Spider’s shoes, because they are too small. Caterpillar is sad without her shoe. She goes to the pond and lily pads and asks Frog if he’s seen her shoes. “Have you seen my shoe?”
Frog looks at her confused, “No, but would you like to borrow one of mine?”
Caterpillar tries on Frog’s shoe, but it also didn’t fit; it was too big. She goes to the grass under the park bench and asks Grasshopper to try on her shoe. She tries it on, but Grasshopper’s shoe is too scratchy.
Caterpillar gets tired and curls up on a leaf to get some rest. While she’s sleeping, Caterpillar has a dream about losing her shoe. In her dream, a shoe fairy comes to Caterpillar and tells her that maybe she lost her shoe for a reason. It’s the same voice that was telling her to stop looking earlier that day! The shoe fairy tells her that caterpillars don’t stay caterpillars forever, and that they all lose their shoes one day. Caterpillar wakes up from her dream and is confused. She didn’t understand the dream, she was impatient and wanted to find her shoe.
Caterpillar goes out to the park again and continues the search for her shoe. She goes to the trees and asks Beetle to help her find the missing shoe. “Beetle can you help me find my shoe?” Beetle ignores her, and eats her leaf. Caterpillar gives up all hope and goes back to her leaf to cry. Her foot hurts, and she feels as though the search for her shoe is now pointless.
Caterpillar goes to sleep again, but this time it’s a deep sleep. This sleep lasts for five days. This sleep is different, because this time Caterpillar is in a cocoon. The shoe fairy comes to Caterpillar again in a dream. She tells her that she won’t need any shoes soon enough, and that time will tell. After five days of sleeping, Caterpillar isn’t Caterpillar anymore. She emerges from her deep sleep and Caterpillar is now Butterfly.
