Socratic Seminar: Radio Show Edition

In my class Forbidden Books, we started off 2020 with a Socratic dialogue project. We dove into philosophy, politics, and read different literature. Before starting our project, we had to learn what the Socratic Method was, and to understand that, we had to talk about one of the first philosophers known to man, Socrates. His theory was that he knows he knows nothing. We read the "Apology of Socrates" that Plato wrote, which was Socrates argument during his trail. He was charged with corrupting the youth because he went around Athens and spread his wisdom and teachings to many young future philosophers. He challenged people that were there to speak against his character and he challenged a lot of initial ideas. One of the people on the stand was Meletus, which was someone there to testify against Socrates. When Socrates cross-examined him, he challenged him on the idea of corrupting the youth. He claimed that if he was the only one to do bad unto the kids, then everyone else must be good? The Socratic Method can be considered dangerous because it teaches children to question authority at a young age. Some people argue that teachers shouldn't be open to diving deeper and letting children ask questions, because it can demonstrate inconsistencies and flaws in their teachings. For my project, I partnered with DB to do a video. Our theme for the Socratic dialogue was "The Value of Life" where we compared the importance of a bug's life to a human being. We did a radio talk show where I was the starring guest, and my partner was the host. He played Socrates, while I played Meletus.
